Carnival of Venice

From 23 January to 9 February

One of the oldest and internationally known festivals celebrated in Venice, the Venice Carnival dates back to the XI century when it was established by Venetian oligarchy to grant common people a period of complete amusement during the year. Through the anonymity provided by masks and costumes, people were able to experience moments of apparent social equality and make fun of authorities and aristocrats

Nowadays, to roam the city dressed up in traditional masked costumes is synonymous with re-living the mysterious, dreamlike atmosphere of a unique event; Venetian masks, beholding you before disappearing around a corner or under a tiny “sottoportego” evoke fantasies of what the city would have been like during the XVIII century, when the Carnival reached its maximum splendour.

As is the tradition during Carnival, Venice gives its visitors the unique opportunity of immersing themselves in a timeless dimension - from San Marco Square to Rialto, through the campi and campielli, to the irresistible parties inside historic palazzi. Book your stay at The Westin Europa & Regina and plunge into the magic of the Venice Carnival!
